Raffle to raise money for deaf children in Bolivia
Did anyone spot a purple fairy complete with feather boa and megaphone at the Kemp Town Carnival? Well, the very lovely Geraldine Delestienne grabbed the hearts and minds of many present and they took part in a raffle to raise money for deaf children in Bolivia.
As most of you probably know, Bolivia is an incredibly poor South American country which doesn’t have universal healthcare. Despite better earnings from fair trade craft sales, some of the producers couldn’t afford the transport costs to get their kids to school. This was particularly disappointing since many of the kids, having just received their first hearing aid, were keen to finally be able to go to school rather than just having to stay at home because they couldn’t hear well enough to join in.
And so, enter Ms. Delestienne, her chums, and many extremely generous Brighton shop owners.
Lovethatstuff would like to say a very big thank you to the following lovely people who very generously donated prizes for the raffle:
Pen to Paper
Curiouser & Curiouser
Dayobi
Retail Therapy
Rolly's Fudge
Yamama
Flawless
Bodega de Tapa
Cafe International.
And thanks too for the loan of the megaphone from BAV Sound and Lighting.
Lots of people were very happy with their prizes, including Ms A Donne who won a week’s holiday in France.
We raised over £100, which is already winging its way to Artesania Sorata in Bolivia. So, we’d just like to say, “We love you guys.” All is possible with positive people we appreciate you.
