Fair Trade from Bombolulu, Kenya

Bombolulu's disabled workshops employ 400 people from all over Kenya. They are members of I.F.A.T. (International Federation of Fair Trade).

Founded in 1969 as a rehabilitation centre, they were largely supported by the Kenya Association for the Disabled. Now, they are working towards social and financial independence because they make lovely products and feel they deserve to earn a decent living from their skills.

Goods include beautiful carvings - masks, bowls and spoons. Working in wood and bone, they then handpaint to decorate with colours and patterns that reflect their environment. Their jewellery is of mixed materials - bead, soapstone, bone, brass, silver or gold plate. Beads come from Masai and Turkana traditions.

Buying their goods will help them gain the respect and security they want. Their work is beautiful and very skilled.

Support them in their aim. They deserve it.
